About Me

Who am I?

My name is Tony Moller, and I am an Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 1150 (National Capital Area Council, Colonial District), located in Alexandria, VA. I have been an ASM for over 3 years now (its March 2007). I am also the Chapter Advisor for the Colonial Chapter Order of the Arrow, and recently the Crew Advisor for Venture Crew 1150.

My association with the scouts goes back to when my son started as a Tiger Cub many years ago. I was a Den Leader for a while, then a Committee Member, assisted my wife in her position as Cubmaster, spent 8 years as the District Pinewood Derby Chair (I’m still called ‘the Pinewood Derby guy’ to this day), and then settled into the role of ASM when my son crossed to the Troop.

What am I doing?

I’ve started this blog to document my time spent as an Assistant Scoutmaster. As our Troop’s Camping MB Councilor I encourage our boys to keep some sort of camping journal - or at the very least a log of dates and locations. So, to be a good example I started keeping one too.

It started as a little database on my Palm T5. That worked great for short weekend camp outs. But when we started doing week long treks, that didn’t work so well. So I started writing in a small note book, and have kept doing it ever since. (I’m also a bit of a gear-head, and went through several iterations till I found the one the worked ‘just right’ for me.)

I transcribed our 2005 Lenhok’Sin summer trek into a Word doc, and the boys and parents enjoyed reading it. So I thought I’d go a step further and start my own blog. I hope you enjoy reading over my shoulder.

Feel free to add your own comments to my musings. My Scouts, their parents, my fellow adult leaders, and even the general public are welcome to comment. Just remember the Scout Law when posting (be courteous and kind).
